What's Going On At MES?

Yancey County Schools is a public school system located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. YCS is made up of one high school, two middle schools, six elementary schools, and a K-8 alternative program.

Mission Statement

Vision: Micaville Elementary School will be a school where students' strengths are fostered, where their needs are addressed, and their lives are enriched and prepared for the future.



  • Upcoming Events
    All students are invited to the "Turkey Trot" - Fall Skate at the Riverside Roller Rink on Monday, November 23 from 6-8 p.m.
    Admission is $5 plus a canned item or $6 ~ The proceeds will go toward the 5th grade trip in the Spring.

    Student Council with Food Drive Items

    Knickerbocker coupons are for sale for $10.  Coupon sales are due on Dec. 3.  Photos will be made here on December 11 & 12, and possibly December 13.  Photo return dates for viewing are December 18, 19, & 20.

    Festive Follies Talent Show will be on Monday, December 14 beginning at 6 p.m.  Admission will be $5.  Fifth Grade parents will be selling concessions in the hallways and in the lunchroom to raise money for their trip.

  • Picture Make Up Day
    Picture make up day is Wednesday, November 4th.  This is only for those who were absent on the first picture day earlier this school year.

  • Parent Portal
    Yancey County Schools will be using Power School Home Base Parent Portal the 2014-2015 school year. This portal will allow parents to access their student's grades, attendance and other important information. Learn how to create your parent account and link your student to your account using information unique to your student.  Needed information to link a student account to the parent account will be sent home to parents from staff at each school. Once you have this information, just view the training videos below to setup your account and navigate through your Parent Portal. Once you are ready to create your own parent account, type or copy and paste this web link into your browser https://yanceync.powerschool.com/public/  For parent convenience, this link will be posted to every school's home page under the Parent tab on the top navigation bar.
